Dear Rachel Maddow Blog Tour

It is Pride Month and the Supreme Court ruled earlier this week that a bakery that didn’t want to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple should have been given further due process under state law rather than just ruling that discriminating against gay couples is against the Constitution. A senator was subsequently kicked out of a refugee facility, but not before his staff noticed that children forcibly separated from their parents were being kept in cages. The Secretary of Education has quietly removed 72 protections for disabled children in public schools. Everywhere you look these days, there is a new reason for outrage and we must all develop coping mechanisms or we will most certainly go mad. That’s where Dear Rachel Maddow comes into play.

Many of us are suffering the psychological and legislative trauma of this administration. I fear that some of us may not make it out and constantly have anxiety that we won’t show up to the polls in November. Taking action may not be the only step to take–sometimes you need an outlet, a motivation to kick your butt in gear. This book may just be what times who feel hopeless are looking for. I am going to write you a letter and tell you why.

First Reads Friday: Undead Girl Gang Blog Tour

Today is First Reads Friday, which means we give you the rundown on an upcoming book.  Usually, the rundown is in the form of a review, but this week is going to be a little different.  We’re going to feature some creative content for an upcoming book, namely, Lily Anderson’s forthcoming Undead Girl Gang.

This isn’t Lily Anderson‘s first time on the blog, but that’s because we love her words and wit and her books in general. To top it off, Undead Girl Gang was one of my most anticipated books of the year, so I immediately agreed to host a date on this blog tour without ever having read the book.  As I was seeking inspiration for this post and reading the book, I realized that this was going to be one of my favorite books of the year.  From witchy vigilante justice, to dedicated and positive girl friendships to back-handed comments about racism in a small town, a strong focus on Wicca, body positivity and being yourself, I can’t pinpoint one thing I loved above all else in this book, it was a perfect potion! I am thrilled to tell you a little bit more about this book and then match up characters to their corresponding enamel pins.

White Rabbit Blog Tour

Imagine combining the slasher qualities of 90’s movies like Scream seamlessly with the warm haziness of unrequited love from an 80’s John Hughes flick and a road trip so surreal it would give Hunter S. Thompson a run for his money.  This is the magic of White Rabbit. Caleb Roehrig’s second YA book is another foray into mystery, but that’s where the comparisons ends with this sophomore book. Mischievous, sarcastic and a totally wild ride, find out all the reasons you should be picking up White Rabbit when it releases next month.

Beasts Made of Night Blog Tour + Giveaway

I am thrilled to be on the book tour today to give you a preview of Beasts Made of Night, a YA Nigerian fantasy that releases on Halloween.  The October 31st release date is perfect for a book that features such haunting descriptions of brutal battles with sin-beasts that leave the Aki marked by sin, both physically and emotionally, a dark, injust world run by the wealthy, poverty and income disparity.  This is a dark, dark tale with a unique world.  Many recommend it for fans of Paolo Bacigalupi and Nnedi Okorafor, but I would also tell fans of slow-burn fantasy, like The Bone Witch and Strange the Dreamer, to pick this one up.  Today’s preview will feature bookish aesthetics plus, a giveaway.
