With just four days until The Speaker hits shelves, I’ve got a sneak peek at my favorite quotes from the book! If you’re not familiar with the Sea of Ink and Gold series and the first book in the trilogy, The Reader, check out my book review, Reread Blog Tour Stop and #MusicMonday post to get you motivated to to binge on this amazing fantasy series this weekend in anticipation of The Speaker’s release on Tuesday.

The Speaker by Traci Chee

After escaping the clutches of the Guard, Sefia and Archer slip into the safety of the forest to tend to their wounds and plan their next move. Archer finds himself struggling with the trauma of his painful memories from captivity and the impressors cruelty. But when Sefia and Archer happen upon a crew of impressors in the wilderness, Archer finally an escape from his nightmares – hunting impressors and freeing the boys they hold captive. The two quickly travel across the kingdom of Deliene rescuing boys while Sefia continues to investigate the mysterious Book and its secrets. But something strange seems to be happening to Archer. The more battles they fight and boys they rescue, the more violence Archer craves, ultimately threating to transform him from the gentle boy Sefia knows to a grim warrior with a cruel destiny. As Sefia begins to unravel the threads that connect Archer’s fate to her parents’ betrayal of the Guard, she and Archer must figure out a way to subvert the Guard’s plans before they are ensnared in a war that will pit kingdoms against each other, leaving their future and the safety of the entire world hanging in the balance.

Traci Chee is the New York Times bestselling author of The Reader. An All-around word geek, she loves book arts and art books, poetry and paper crafts. She studied literature and creative writing at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and earned a master of arts degree from San Francisco State University. Traci grew up in a small town with more cows than people, and now feels most at home in the mountains, scaling switchbacks and happening upon hidden highland lakes. She lives in California with her fast-fast dog.

I would be remiss in curating my favorite quotes without showing you all the gorgeous graphics from Traci Chee’s 25 day preview of The Speaker.  She is adding to it every day until publication, so be sure to follow along!  Coincidentally, some of the quotes she’s chosen overlap with a few of my personal favorites as well, so I have shared her beautiful graphics (so far) below ahead of my list of favorite quotes.

“This was the Book–infinite and full of magic–a record of everything that had ever been or would ever be, all the ages of history spelled out in fine black ink”

“If you had the gift for it, the world was Illuminated–every object swimming in its own history, every moment accessible if only you knew how to look for it.”

“The symbol on the cover seemed to taunt her. Two curves for her parents. A curve for Nin. The straight line for herself. Answers. Redemption. Revenge.”

“…slipped away as dawn crested the peaks and the daylight chased them through the pointed tips of the pines.”

“He wanted to be the boy who deserved to stand next to the girl beside him.”

“He’d had to rebuild himself to become Archer, the boy with no past and a bright future with this girl who’s saved him.”

“Was it enough to live on in legend if the legends were lies?”

“My love, where did you go / Since last you spoke my name? / To skies above or seas below, / In darkness, both the same?”

“As if the battle were a piece of music and he its conductor, Archer could sense the rhythm of the fight charging toward its conclusion.”
