Today, we are thrilled to have New York Times best-selling author Lisa Maxwell on the blog! She’s here to fancast her latest book, The Last Magician.  I love author Pintrest boards, especially when it comes to character aesthetics. I am always interested in knowing whether my idea of a character’s looks corresponds to what the author had in mind.

The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell

Stop the Magician. Steal the book. Save the future.

In modern-day New York, magic is all but extinct. The remaining few who have an affinity for magic—the Mageus—live in the shadows, hiding who they are. Any Mageus who enters Manhattan becomes trapped by the Brink, a dark energy barrier that confines them to the island. Crossing it means losing their power—and often their lives.

Esta is a talented thief, and she’s been raised to steal magical artifacts from the sinister Order that created the Brink. With her innate ability to manipulate time, Esta can pilfer from the past, collecting these artifacts before the Order even realizes she’s there. And all of Esta’s training has been for one final job: traveling back to 1902 to steal an ancient book containing the secrets of the Order—and the Brink—before the Magician can destroy it and doom the Mageus to a hopeless future.

But Old New York is a dangerous world ruled by ruthless gangs and secret societies, a world where the very air crackles with magic. Nothing is as it seems, including the Magician himself. And for Esta to save her future, she may have to betray everyone in the past.

Lisa Maxwell is the New York Times Best-Selling author of The Last Magician. Her other critically acclaimed books include Sweet Unrest, Gathering Deep, and Unhooked. She has a PhD in English, and when she’s not writing books, she’s an English professor at a local college. She grew up in Akron, OH, and has lived in lots of other places: Pennsylvania, Illinois, Alabama, and even a short stint in Italy. Currently makes her home near DC with her very patient husband and two not-so patient boys.

Thanks so much for having me on your blog! When I wrote The Last Magician, I had tons of pictures pinned on my Pinterest board for the books, but other than the character of Dolph Saunders, I didn’t really have a single actor or model in mind for any single character. The characters in the book are compilations of images I found or people I know in real life. If I had to pick a dream cast? I would hope they’d find some great unknowns, actors who have the same backgrounds or ethnicity as the characters in the book.

But until I get that movie deal…I can always dream, right?

I should probably preface this cast by saying that everyone here is too old for the actual characters, who range in age from 15 to 26…so imagine the teen-age versions of all of these J
