Yearning, burning, needing, kissing. A kiss is ALWAYS necessary when there’s romance in a novel and since Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, we compiled our list of best kisses, touches and words in YA.
Shatter Me Series by Tahereh Mari
There are too many kisses to count in this series, but there’s one very sexy kiss in Chapter 58 of Unravel Me. We are Team Warner, obviously (Adam can suck it).
“Is it even possible,” he whispers, “that you can’t feel this fire between us?” His hands are traveling up my arms again, his touch so light, his fingers slipping under the straps of my shirt and it’s ripping me apart, it’s aching in my core, it’s a pulse beating in every inch of my body and I’m trying to convince myself not to lose my head when I feel the straps fall down and everything stops.
The air is still.
My skin is scared.
Even my thoughts are whispering.
6 seconds I forget to breathe.
Then I feel his lips against my shoulder, soft and scorching and tender, so gentle I could almost believe it’s the kiss of a breeze and not a boy.
The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson
Not only are we deceived by Kiss of Deception, but we are also titilated by the love triangle between Lia, the Prince, and the Assasin.
“I was about to reach in the basket to take one when a horse that had been grazing nearby suddenly charged at another horse. Kaden grabbed me and pulled me out of its path. We stumbled back, unable to regain our footing, and both tumbled to the ground. He rolled over me in a protective motion, hovering in case the horse came closer, but it was already gone.
The world snapped to silence. The tall grass waved above us, hiding us from view. He gazed down at me, his elbows straddling my sides, his chest brushing mine, his face inches away.
I saw the look in his eyes. My heart pounded against my ribs.
“Are you all right?” His voice was low and husky.
“Yes,” I whispered.
His face hovered closer to mine. I was going to push away, look away, do something, but I didn’t, and before I knew what was happening, the space between us disappeared. His lips were warm and gentle against mine, and his breath thrummed in my ears. Heat raced through me. It was just as I had imagined that night with Pauline back in Terravin so long ago. Before—
I pushed him away.
I got to my feet, my chest heaving, busying myself with a loose button on my shirt. “Let’s forget that happened, Kaden.”
He had jumped to his feet too. He grabbed my hand so I had to look at him. “You wanted to kiss me.”
I shook my head, denying it, but it was true. I had wanted to kiss him.”
Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge
A cross between The Graceling and Beauty and the Beast, this puzzle of a book has a very sweet, if confusing love story. That’s why this scene with just one touch is perfectly indicative of Nyx and Ignifex.
“You deserve all that and more. It made me happy to see you suffer. I would do it all over again if I could.’ I realized I was shaking as the words tumbled out of me. ‘I would do it again and again. Every night I would torment you and laugh. Do you understand? You are never safe with me.’ I drew a shuddering breath, trying to will away the sting of tears.
He opened his eyes and stared up at me as if I were the door out of Arcadia and back to the true sky. ‘That’s what makes you my favorite.’ He reached up and wiped a tear off my cheek with his thumb. ‘Every wicked bit of you.”
The Wrath and The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh
I’m not sure I’ve ever read a more romantic book. There are so many yearning looks and kisses, touches and words that it’s almost impossible to pick a kiss. In this case, a touch and words that would level kingdoms and at the very lease melt your cold, cold heart
“What are you doing to me, you plague of a girl?” he whispered.
“If I’m a plague, then you should keep your distance, unless you plan on being destroyed.” The weapons still in her grasp, she shoved against his chest.
“No.” His hands dropped to her waist. “Destroy me.”
