Kiersten White’s new novel And I Darken, the first book of her Darken Trilogy, answers the questions What If Dracula Were a Girl? It’s a bloody interesting prospect! We explore the idea in this series preview and cover reveal.
In a exclusive interview with Bustle, White discusses the premise for the first book in the Darken Trilogy And I Darken out Summer 2016. The series will follow Lada Dragwyla, a deposed princess fighting her way from the Ottoman court where she is a political prisoner, back to claim the crown of her kingdom of Wallachia. The series described as “a mash-up of Game of Thrones and An Ember in the Ashes” takes its premise from the Dracula myth and the historical figure Vlad The Impaler. White’s novel proposes to do more than swap pronouns, it explores how a fight to win back one’s homeland in this historical context would be further complicated if a young woman was the one doing the fighting. The story explores politics, history, gender issues, unrequited love……needless to say this book is on our MUST READ list for 2016.
